Politcal Mess for You to Sort Out.I am against Gay marriage.
- Insert your GASP! here. You know you want to.. -
Yes, against.
But my GAY FRIENDS already know this.
The thing that pisses me off about this whole gay issue is that, there's this idea that people who are against gay marriage hate gay people, or are against diversity, or what have you..
Am I evil because I am against gay marriage? Not every soul who objects interracial relationships are evil. I could simply make the argument that they are ignorant. But then you could make the argument that I'm ignorant.
I might be ignorant.
I'm against gay marriage simply because of my faith. Does this make me a hypocrite? More than likely, yes. If my old roommate (who was Super Gay) called me to go to his wedding.. would I go? No. I wouldn't go because I didn't like Chris.
But if _________ down in Midtown asked me to go to his wedding, I'd go. Cos he's my friend. I can be against gay marriage and still support him in his happines with his "husband".
Here's my thing... to me, gay marriage is a political issue. I have no personal investment in it. But for some reason, when all of my straight friends get riled up for supporting gay marriage and I say that I don't, there's this prolonged silence, followed by "Simbarashe, what the hell is wrong with you?"
The only reason I feel the urge to post this to those who care to read it, is because I'm sick and tired of this anti-gay marriage bashing that goes on. This is the life of politics. Not all Republicans are evil. Not all Democrats are loose. Not everyone who opposes gay marriage is a bigot.
Gays are as essential to my community as African Americans are. In case you're wondering, I do think about the whole 'denying someone of their civil and human rights' thing. But, the laws I follow are the ones that are dictated by my faith.
Yeppa.
Well. Think about it like this. If being a Buddhist meant that you had to be against kicking old people on the street, then you'd be a good Bhuddist and not kick people on the street right?
So then, if the state were thinking about introducing a law that said it was ok to kick old people on the street, would you go out to a pro "Kick Old People on the Street" rally?
No.
So you see, it's not a matter of IMPOSING laws on non-believers, because you too are a non-believer (in that vein).
It's more of a matter of upholding the laws that do not conflict with the faith. That's how I look at it. Everyone else (who has a different faith, let's say) look at it as imposing. I'm not imposing anything. I'm simply saying that I'm not for gay marriage, and a lot of people (on your team) are too simple minded to understand that.
If the state of California passed a law tomorrow permitting gay marriage, then that would be the law. You wouldn't see me speaking out about it. To put this in better perspective for you..
I think the 65 mph interstate speed limit is ridiculous. But that's the law. What can I do about it? Not really trying to change it. Now.. if the speed limit was 75 and they wanted to lower it to 65, would I be against that? Hell yes. But if it became the law, that's that.
But what people don't understand is, it's not a law. At least not yet. And it's conflicting my faith. So I'm against it. I still love Sergio and all them cats.. I'm not trying to hold anybody down. But there was a petition that went around for people being for gay marriage...
and what makes me sick is that half of these people really don't give a shit, they're just for it because being against it makes you look like a hater and that's the trendy thing to do (cmon Richard, ALL of our friends are in that trendy crowd... including you and me)
Doesn't mean I have to agree with all of the politics. We're not assembly-line 20something year olds...

American MILF?So, maybe you don't watch Aemrican Idol - or maybe you do. But there was this interesting story I got wind of today about Corey Clark. He was that light-skinned brother who had the phat falsetto voice- and got kicked off the show last year cos he got arrested for beating up his sister.
Well...Corey says that he was having sex with Paula while he was a contestant on the show. Sounds flabby...but his details are real plausible. So...Paula may or may not be using Idol as her personal boy-toy convention.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet... TiVO here I come!

The New BandSo far, the search for a new band has gone off without a hitch. Lots of positive responses, lots of intellectual individuals, light on the dumbasses. I'm excited.
As for a new band name.. I dunno about that yet but I think the word REPUBLIC should be in the title. That would sound nifty, I think.
Once I get around to meeting everyone I want to meet, I'll post their info up here for all to see and enjoy.

The Acquisition EditorsRight now, as we speak, there are a few literary agents out there in pre-publishing land reading ove rthe 435 somethin-odd pages of Everybody Hates Donica Pine. While I am positively sure I will receive a wave of rejection letters (not because I don't believe in the strength of my book-it's DAMN GOOD) but because most are too busy to actually read the materials they've requested. (I have to put an * here and mention that I am not including agents that I sent initial query letters to. These are the "second rounders that we're dealing with).. So I will be sure to keep you posted each time a rejection comes through. If an acceptance comes through, of course you'll know that too.
If I receive any letters (pro or con) from agents that are more than the standard, bs form letter than gets sent out, perhaps I'll be daring and post it here for you to read.
So far the score card reads as follows: 0 of 2 - for 6
Keep marching, hombres.

In other news, I sent a formal letter to FOX on behalf of my Token Black Guy pitch. Form letter or not, if they respond you'll know about it.
